About the role

Based in Perth, the Research Director will work closely with the Research Chair to provide leadership and technical expertise on research undertaken within the Foundation (utilising both internal and third-party resources), and to establish and embed the systems and processes needed to ensure a culture of research excellence at Minderoo.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with Initiative Leads to design and implement high impact research strategies that supports them to achieve their advocacy objectives.
  • Providing technical expertise across the organisation on the design and execution of complex research projects, including quantitative methods.
  • Provide internal peer review or help source external peer review options.
  • Provide technical advice on research design and implementation including helping pioneer new methodologies.
  • Work across the organisation to build research capacity commensurate with the needs of each of the initiatives.
  • Design and implement strategies, plans and procedures to build and monitor a culture of research excellence across the organisation. This will include implementing and refining research quality standards, quality assurance processes, risk management and governance processes across the organisation; and ensuring research outcomes are clearly tied into impact strategies.
  • Design and implement strategies, plans and procedures to identify and fill critical gaps in research infrastructure, such as data whare-housing.

About you

You will have a PhD or Post graduate qualifications in relevant field with a strong quantitative focus, such as psychology, population health, demography, sociology, statistics, economics or equivalent.

At least ten or more years of experience in designing and executing ambitious research programs to meet defined strategic objectives, ideally in a policy or applied research environment.

You will have experience in developing, applying, and stretching the boundaries of what is possible, through using rigorous but innovative quantitative and qualitative research processes to answer challenging questions.
