Registered Nurse : In-home Care

Canterbury, Victoria, Australia Part-time

Private In-home Registered Nurse – Aged Care

  • Private in-home Aged Care Nursing
  • Canterbury (East of Melbourne)
  • Initially part-time: Saturday’s (Day)

A Registered Nurse with dementia specific Aged Care experience is required to provide personalised, private, home based social and clinical care for an elderly female client. She has the onset of dementia but is still active and enjoys typical activities including preparing meals, shopping, socialising, exercising and general home lifestyle duties.  It is expected that the level of care will change over time based on a changing clinical condition.

This is a unique opportunity as care will be provided at home and has been designed to facilitate building a social relationship, rather than be entirely clinical. It will require building trust and sharing common interests such as walking and cooking. Key to providing great care will be maintaining the patient’s consistency of lifestyle, living patterns and familiarity, with incremental adjustments to accommodate changing care needs.

As a Registered Nurse with Aged Care specific experience you will undertake duties as recommended and directed by the dedicated full-time RN (on-site Mon- Fri), the individual’s direct family and the medical team which may comprise of the GP, Geriatrician and Neuropsychologist. You will actively apply your knowledge and experience to contribute to existing care practices.

Your duties will involve all aspects of clinical nursing and care, as well as providing wider social mobility and general home support. The requirement is initially for Saturday’s only but may increase as care needs change. The care plan includes access to excellent facilities, both in-home and clinically.

We require a Registered Nurse who has built a career in Aged Care nursing. Given the companion/social element of the role and the progress of the patient’s condition, this role requires someone who has a deep understanding of dementia care and likes the idea of providing personalised one-to-one care. It may be ideal if you are looking to transition your career, work part-time or gear toward eventual retirement.

Ideally 15 years qualified nursing experience, with a minimum of 5 years of dementia Care is sought. You will need current Division 1 Nursing Registration, demonstrated dementia specific knowledge and training, and have statements of attainment in CPR and First Aid.  A Driver’s License is also essential. Background checks and A ‘working with children’ card/check will be part of the selection process.

If you have genuine compassion, professionalism, respect, patience and will enjoy working in an environment that involves wider family inclusion in a supportive yet unobtrusive way, we would like to hear from you. This is a fantastic nursing opportunity.

Please apply online and email Adrian Di Natale,, if you would like to have a confidential discussion with our Aged Care/Dementia nursing subject matter expert, Emma, about the position.
