Commercial Manager - Property Portfolio

The Property Department’s primary role is to develop and manage a significant national property portfolio within the interests of the organsiation, its stakeholders and those who depend upon their services.  The Commercial Manager will work alongside the Chief Property Officer (CPO) to achieve the Property Department’s objectives, in particular optimising the performance of the portfolio and releasing capital to support the strategic objectives of the organisation.

About the role

Reporting to the CPO, key areas of accountability will include:

  • Providing strategic commercial advice to the CPO in relation to investment, submissions, capital requests and project approvals
  • Reviewing all business cases, leases, contracts and other property matters requiring approval, and provide recommendations to the CPO, including any significant commercial and financial risks and impacts
  • Providing commercial leadership, management and advice across the property functions to improve performance, minimize risk and maximise efficiencies
  • Managing the Property Approval Panel, including processes, submissions and stakeholder engagement
  • Managing the submission of approvals to the Executive Council
  • Leading and managing commercial issues, including providing commercial/financial and risk analysis
  • Managing capital allocation and funding for Property related activities, aligned with the objectives of the organisation

About You

 For this role you will have need to have a depth of experience within a property development, funds management or advisory company, where you have applied strong commercial and analytical expertise to improve portfolio performance. Other requirements include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce, Business or Accounting
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • A demonstrable track record of optimizing performance of commercial property portfolios
  • A sound knowledge of legislative obligations
  • Previous exposure to investment analysis and mergers & acquisition experience is advantageous
  • Strong problem solving, conceptual, analytical and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication
  • Experience within challenging, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Proven financial reporting skills
  • Up to date experience with major financial modelling packages (e.g. Excel, Estate Master)
